This evening we will hold our first large-group meeting of fall 2010, now known as “Epic.” When we renamed the meeting from Turning Point to Epic near the end of last semester, the staff and student leaders agreed that it better reflected our affiliation with the Epic Movement; it also gives the meeting a more [...]
Summer is an interesting time at Penn State and holds as much variety as any other time of year. For the last few summers, I have been responsible for organizing AACF during the summer months. Most of the other staff participate in summer missions projects, raise support, or attend training during the summer. I am [...]
Last weekend, we celebrated the end of the semester with the last Epic meeting and the tradition everyone loves to hate, senior pie-in-the-face. On Saturday, we had a more dignified celebration of a great year and a great class of graduating seniors at the senior banquet. Congratulations, graduates!
Today, many of AACF’s twenty small group leaders were treated to a nice lunch as a thank-you for a year of hard work and as a celebration. (Several of the staff team, who also lead small groups, were out of town this weekend for a conference.) Small groups–Bible studies generally focused on exploration of Christ’s [...]
Every spring, we hold a baptism service to give new or old believers the opportunity to publicly declare their faith by being baptized by Pastor John. Today, three men, Billy, Josh, and Wei, declared their faith in Jesus and their desire to follow Him the rest of their lives. Congratulations, guys!
Welcome back! (That was to me.) If a picture is worth one thousand words, then here are about 350,000 words worth to make up for/explain my blogging absence. http://www.photosbyjan.com/gallery/Simon/ Alisha and I were married on January 30, 2010. Enjoy the photos!
Today marks the end of the first full week that students have been back on campus, or, for new students, the end of their first week at Penn State. It’s an exciting week for everyone. I enjoyed walking around at lunch time, seeing students reading their schedules, looking at campus maps and looking up at [...]
On Thursday, February 26, AACF held its first “Asian Night Market” at the HUB, our student union building. The Night Market was a setup of booths with Asian-style crafts, food, and games, similar to a nighttime market that might be found on a city street in some Asian countries. Students from AACF and a couple [...]
Last weekend was the Epic East-coast Conference in Philadelphia, a meeting of many of the Epic movements from schools along the east coast. This year’s conference was extended by a day, taking advantage of Martin Luther King Jr. day when the students had no classes. Pastor Kenji Adachi of Ambassador Bible Church in Virginia gave [...]
It’s hard to believe that the fall semester is already coming to an end. In November, the Asian Tea House drew a crowd of over 150 students who were interested in free bubble tea and discussions on Asian American culture. AACF’s student members were there to facilitate and, in some cases, engage patrons in spiritual [...]
